KUALA LUMPUR: A four year old boy was allegedly beaten and pinched on his genitals by his kindergarten teacher because he would not sleep during nap time.
The boy was sent to the kindergarten at Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh every morning by his unassuming parents, who thought that their son was in safe hands.
Concerning the incident that happened on Nov 17, the victim's grandmother noticed that the boy's genitalia was bruised blue and black, and had what appeared to be fingernail marks on his scrotum.
The parents immediately contacted the kindergarten demanding to know what happened to their son.
"When we contacted them, they denied everything and said that they will look into the CCTV footage of the school. Days went by but they never got back to us," said the father of the boy at a press conference today.
He said he then brought his son to a clinic for a check-up, where a doctor confirmed that the red marks and swelling was caused by someone's fingernail.
He said that his wife had gone to the school to confront the teacher, who then avoided meeting her.
"My wife had to text message the teacher and tell her that if she did not speak with us, we would be making a police report," he said.
Afraid of the involvement of authorities, the teacher admitted to injuring the child and said that it was because he refused to sleep during naptime.
"She also begged us not to make the police report and to keep everything under wraps and promised that they would make amends, but they did not, they just kept quiet about it and did not take any responsibility for their actions," said the father who lodged a police report a week after the incident.
He told the press that his son had always feared going to the kindergarten, but that they had no idea why as everything seemed fine.
The family is now seeking legal action against the kindergarten.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong warned parents to be mindful of the kindergartens and daycare centres they send their children to.
"We have had many cases like this to date, just last month a daycare teacher had gagged a girl with a cloth to prevent her from talking. The girl then came home and did the same thing to her baby brother, which nearly killed the infant," he added.
