PORT DICKSON: February 14th has been chosen as the date to celebrate the "Warrior's Commemoration Day' for the national army every year, says Army Chief Tan Sri Zulkiple Kassim.
He said the date was chosen in conjunction with the fall of a hero from the Malay Regiment, namely Lt Adnan Saidi in Bukit Candu, Singapore, while defending the country against Japanese invasion on Feb 14, 1942.
"Among the activities for the day would be 'tahlil' prayers and so on ... this will become a special event on Feb 14 every year.
"All this while, the date has been commemorated by the Royal Malay Regiment (RMR), because the late Lieutenant (Adnan) was a member of RMR," he said during a press conference after a parade and address held in conjunction with the 85th Army Day at the field of the Army Basic Training Centre (Pusasda) here, today.
Also present were Army Deputy Chief Lt Gen Datuk Seri Hasbullah Mohd Nawawi, West Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Azizan Md Delin and East Field Commander Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Zaki Mokhtar.
Meanwhile, he said the 4NextG strategic development plan was being developed holistically to enable the army to operate simultaneously in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. — Bernama
