Immigration launches Palestine humantarian fund

    PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department (JIM) will initiate the JIM Palestine Fund to raise funds for aid missions and humanitarian activities for Palestinians, said Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali.
    He said the matter was one of the main agendas in the meeting between JIM officials and Aman Palestin chaired by him at the Immigration headquarters here to discuss humanitarian issues relating to Palestine and possible cooperation between both parties.
    "It is hoped this JIM Palestine Humanitarian Fund will somewhat ease the burden of the Palestinian people under the supervision of Aman Palestin.
    "The fund will be launched during Ramadan and it is hoped all Immigration staff and Malaysians will be able to contribute not only during Ramadan but also continuously to those in need," he said in a statement, here today.
    The meeting was also attended by Immigration director-general (Control) Datuk Shahril Ismail while Aman Palestin was represented by Ustaz Awang Suffian Awang Piut, Ustaz Anas Abdul Wahab and several officials from Aman Palestin management.
    On May 14, Israeli forces fired at Palestinians in Gaza protesting against the the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem causing the deaths of 60 Palestinian protesters.
    On another note, Mustafar said the Immigration Department was always committed in ensuring the enforcement and border control aspects were implemented without compromising the sovereignty, security and well-being of the country throughout Ramadan. — Bernama
