Liek Hou wins BWF World Para Badminton title

KUALA LUMPUR: National paralympic shuttler Cheah Liek Hou clinched the world title in the SU5 Category (Upper Body Disability) after beating Suryo Nugroho from Indonesia in the final of the BWF World Para Badminton Championships in Ulsan, South Korea, yesterday.
Liek Hou, the top seed in the championships, lived up to his status as the top billing by defeating Nugroho 19-21, 21-15, 21-18 after a three-set thriller said the BWF in their website: www.bwfworldsuperseries.com.
The Malaysian ace has now won 11 world titles, including five in the doubles, since the tournament was introduced in 1998.
The 29 year-old however, failed to complete a double after he and his partner Hairol Fozi Saaba were defeated in a three-set final 18-21, 23-21, 21-18 by Suryo and Tay Wei Ming from Singapore.
Liek Hou had also beaten Suryo 21-11, 21-15 to win the gold medal at the Asean Para Games held in Kuala Lumpur recently. — Bernama
