PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has announced that he will head to the palace today morning to be sworn in by the Agung as Malaysia's 7th prime minister, making him the world's oldest prime minister and Malaysia 's first Prime minister to take the reigns for the second time.
Mahathir had also announced to a packed house that once he is sworn in, he would appoint Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah as the Deputy Prime minister, making her the first female deputy in the country.
"The palace has called us and they have heard of our unofficial majority. The EC has not officially informed them yet but the palace told us to inform them when we received majority according to our own count," he said at a packed house in the Sheraton Petaling Jaya just now.
"Apart from the EC being slow to announce the results, everything has gone smoothly. Now we have already received the majority and we are ready to be sworn in at the palace later today," he said.
Mahathir said once he is sworn in, he will appoint Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the deputy prime minister.
"We will also work on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's pardon so that he can be the prime minister in waiting. But before that, he must stand for elections after pardoned because one can only become prime minister if he is an MP or a senator," he told a press conference at around 3am to declare Pakatan Harapan's victory – unofficial at the time – against BN after winning over 112 parliament seats nationwide.
"After prime minister is sworn in, then he may appoint his deputy and other ministers," he added.
Mahathir also announced that Harapan would fulfil its promise of a two-day holiday for today and Friday after their resounding win.
He also said that his party would not seek 'revenge' on UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak but to only uphold the rule of law and no one is exempt from the rule of law.
Mahathir said Najib has gone quiet and he has not heard from him yet.
Mahathir was surrounded by members of the Pakatan Harapan when he gave the announcement.
