IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir today lashed out at the opposition for alleging that the water tank in Jalan Raja Dihilir near his official residence is a breeding ground for the Aedes mosquito.
He described the allegation as cheap politics designed to portray that the Ipoh City Council had neglected its duty to take care of the vicinity of the Mentri Besar's official residence.
"Do not make use of the issue of how I am going to take care of Perak, with the 'Perak Yang Bersih' (Clean Perak) campaign, when I do not know how to ensure cleanliness around my house.
"Of course, there can be rubbish or mosquito-breeding activity anywhere at all," he said to reporters after the handing over of Aidilfitri goodies at the Banquet Hall of Bangunan Darul Ridzuan here.
Zambry said the City Council made an inspection and found only nuisance mosquitoes there and took preventive measures against the breeding of mosquitoes, even the Aedes.
The media had reported quoting Tebing Tinggi state assemblyman Ong Boon Piow of the DAP as saying that he checked the tank and found mosquito larvae, even of the Aedes.
Zambry did not rule out the possibility of irresponsible people having broken the tank cover and advised anyone who knew of this to report to the City Council.
The Mentri Besar said the state government and the Charity Association of the Wives of Perak State Assemblymen (Baiduri) handed over 20,000 packets of Aidilfitri goodies for distribution to 18 security forces and uniformed bodies in the state. — Bernama
