KANGAR: The police are in the midst of tracking down 55 men and a woman to facilitate investigations into a spate of criminal cases statewide since 1999.
One of the fugitives is wanted for murder while the rest are allegedly involved in attempted murder (three); sexual violence (one), robbery (two), violence (15), property (14), rape (seven), escape from police supervision (six), gambling (four) and escape from roadblocks and police checks (three).
Perlis CID chief, Supt Azahar Muda told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters today that the individuals were locals aged between 17 and 67.
"We believe they are either in the country or fled to Thailand. We are working with the Thai police to track them down," he said.
He said the police wanted to contact Chang Chong Weng, 54, in connection with a 2001 murder in Kangar.
Chang's last known address was at No: 11, Lebuh Queen in George Town, Penang.
The police also wanted to contact Khazali Abdullah, 54, and Muhammad Rizal Ismail, 27, in connection with an attempted murder of a customs officer in Padang Besar in 2015.
Khazali's last known address was No: 36, Jalan Maju 7, Taman Kemajuan here, while Muhammad Rizal was known to have resided at No: 510, MK 8, Permatang Rawa, Bukit Mertajam, in Penang.

The police believe he could shed light on a hit-and-run attempt on a policeman on duty during an operation at Jalan Panggas Chuping, Padang Besar this year.
Azahar said two individuals sought in connection with a robbery in Arau (2007) and Kuala Perlis (2016) were Muhammad Huzaeri Hussen, 26, and Muhammad Shahrul Vadivel Abdullah, 40.
