Police nabs crime couple

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have detained a pair of lovers who were members of a shop-breaking, house-breaking, robbery, snatch theft and motorcycle theft gang in a raid at a house in Kampung Petani, Kubang Semang, here Thursday.
Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said police, acting on tip-offs and intelligence, raided the house at 10.30am and detained the couple, aged 31 and 32 years, and seized various stolen possessions.
He said among the items seized from the pair were 17 watches of various brands, six cellphones, two cameras, a Yamaha 135 LC motorcycle stolen in Tasek Gelugor and a motorcycle engine missing in Machang Bubok.
"Investigation revealed that the couple were involved in various criminal cases including the latest, breaking into a shop selling watches at Jalan Datuk Ooh Chooi Cheng, here on June 11 and escaping with 18 Polo and Casio brand watches and RM200 in cash.
"They have also committed six robberies against foreigners, snatch-theft (two) and motorcycle theft (two) in SPT over the past two months. In fact, investigations found that the couple were also involved in crimes in Seberang Perai Utara (SPU)," he said, here today.
"The police have also arrested four gang members last week and all of them were actively involved in criminal activities, especially robberies and house-breakings in SPT and SPU. The gang's modus operandi was to rob foreigners returning from work including tomyam restaurants' Thai workers," he added. — Bernama
