DENGKIL: Three machete wielding burglars were shot and killed by the police near a housing area in Jenderam Harmoni early today.
In the 4am incident, the district's police team from the serious crimes division (D9) was conducting "Ops Rantau Sepang" in the vicinity.
Sepang district police chief ACP Abdul Aziz Ali said the team stumbled upon the suspects when they were patrolling a forested area.
"The suspects who were foreigners looked suspicious and we believe they were about to carry their criminal activities.
"The police tried to approach them for inspection, but the trio suddenly became aggressive and tried to attack the police with machetes," he said in a statement today.
Abdul Aziz said the police then opened fire in self-defence and killed them.
Following the incident, police found three machetes, and several house break-in tools.
"We have identified the suspects and checks revealed the trio have been involved in six break in cases in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi and Dengkil," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
