Prasarana to officially take over Penang ferry system on May 1

GEORGE TOWN: Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's subsidiary Rapid Ferry Sdn Bhd will officially take over the operation and service of the Penang ferry service from MMC Corp Bhd's Penang Port Sdn Bhd on May 1, 2018.
The group said in a statement that Rapid Ferry has inked two agreements in relation to the takeover of operations and assets with the Penang Port Commission (PPC).
The two agreements are in line with the government's decision made on September 27, 2017 to transform the company's operations and improve its services under Prasarana.
PPC's chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said that the commission is confident that armed with its vast experience in transforming the public transportation system, Prasarana will be able to fulfill customers needs with better ferry services.
He added that Prasarana and Rapid Ferry will carry out short-term and long-term programmes to transform and improve the Penang ferry system to become the pride of the people of Penang.
