Ringgit ends slightly higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed slightly higher against the US dollar today on continued buying interest in the local note, dealers said.
At 6pm, it was quoted at 4.2920/2950 against the greenback from 4.2935/2965 last Friday.
A dealer said the ringgit was supported by buying ahead of Malaysia's economic growth data due this week and which is likely to be positive, boosted by consumer spending.
The dealer said the lower-than-expected US inflation data released last week, which had dampened the possibility for another Federal Reserve interest rate hike this year, also spurred Asian currencies, including the ringgit.
Meanwhile, the ringgit ended mostly lower against other major currencies.
It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.1517/1551 from 3.1461/1495 on last Friday and appreciated versus the yen to 3.9121/9152 from 3.9365/9396.
The local unit also slipped versus the euro to 5.0633/0681 from 5.0479/0518 and weakened against the British pound to 5.5689/5745 from 5.5644/5696. — Bernama
