KUCHING: An inspector is among six police personnel to have been arrested for alleged involvement in extortion here.
State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief SAC Datuk Dev Kumar said they were arrested by the serious crime division (D9) policemen at their homes and places of work in Kuching, Padawan and Lundu Tuesday night and this morning.
"The arrests came after two individuals lodged police reports in Batu Kawa and Sematan alleging that this group of rogue policemen had extorted money from them," he told theSun today.
Dev said one of the suspects was a 53-year-old inspector attached to an administration department at the Sarawak police headquarters.
"The other five are lower rank policemen aged between 25 and 32 years, attached to various units in Kuching district police headquarters," he added.
The suspects are expected to be remanded today and the case is being investigated as extortion under Section 384 of the Penal Code.
