Students should master soft skills, digital literacy skills

NILAI: Students are advised to master soft skills such as communication skills and digital literacy skills in Education 4.0 to prepare for the upcoming Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0)
Education Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said such skills would be far more important than ever to ensure the country could produce marketable graduates for industries.
"The IR 4.0 has given a new impetus to educational transformation. In recent years, education experts have recognised the profound impact that technological innovations in Information and Communication Technologies are having on education.
"They agree that Education 4.0 will be shaped by innovations and there is a great need to train students to produce innovations. Thus, Education 4.0 aims to produce highly creative graduates with the ability to think critically," she said at 7th Fully Residential Schools International Symposium (FRSIS) 2018 opening ceremony, here, today.
Her speech text was read by Deputy Secretary General Education of the Education Ministry (Education Development) Mohamad Azhan Md Amir.
She added therefore it was vital for students to equip themselves with all those skills to secure good jobs later.
"We do not want to have graduates who are not marketable after completing their studies just because they lack the skills mentioned," she said.
More than 1,000 delegates ranging from presenters, experts and students from Singapore, Indonesia, South Korea and the Philippines are involved in the 5-day programme held at Tunku Kushiah College, organised by the Fully Residential and Excellent Schools Management Division (BPSBPSK).
The symposium this year focuses on information and knowledge sharing, through research and best practises in the field of Digital Revolution. — Bernama
