KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here was told today that three of the accused in deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais' (pix) murder were detected to be near the deceased's residence before the car he was travelling in was involved in an accident with a Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck.
Inspector Ahmad Zikri Zalik, 30, from the Sentul district police headquarters, said the accused – S. Ravi Chandaran, M. Vishwanath, and S. Nimalan – were in the vicinity of Kondominium Menara Duta 2, about a kilometre away from the location of the crash which occurred between 7.30am and 8am on Sept 4, 2015.
He said the presence of the three accused was detected by a telecommunication tower on the roof of Kondominium Menara Duta 2 through telephone calls made by them between 6.46am and 8.05am on that day.
Ahmad Zikri, who is the 68th prosecution witness, said the crash involving Kevin Morais' car and the Mistsubishi Triton occurred after the deputy public prosecutor left his house at Kondominium Menara Duta 1 and was recorded by a closed-circuit television camera at Kondominium Suria, about 300 metres away.
"The CCTV recording showed a car in which the victim was travelling in being tailed by a Mitsubishi Triton at a close distance before the crash occurred," he said during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin in Kevin Morais murder trail today.
Ahmad Zikri said the CCTV recording also showed the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck crashing into the Proton Perdana car in which Kevin Morais was travelling in and then people disembarking from both the vehicles.
However, he could not identify the individuals in the CCTV recording which was screened in court today as the image was not clear.
Ahmad Zikri, who was an investigating officer in the case, said the case was initially classified as a "Missing Person" case, before another investigating officer took over the case and classified it under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Ravi Chandaran, Vishwanath and Nimalan are among five men who pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to a charge of murdering Kevin Morais along Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul to No. 1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya, between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015.
The other two are R. Dinishwaran, 25, and A. K Thinesh Kumar, 24.
Dr Kunaseegaran, 54, who is the first accused, claimed trial to abetting the five men in committing the offence at the same place, date and time.
The hearing before judge Datuk Azman Abdullah continues on Sept 4. — Bernama
