Two cops being probed for negligence over Jamal's escape

KAJANG: Police are investigating the two policemen on guard duty for negligence when Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos absconded before completing his bail documentation at the Ampang Putri Specialist Hospital last Friday.
"The investigation is being conducted by the Integrity and Compliance Standard Department (JIPS) to determine whether the matter was deliberate or there was a misunderstanding or a technical error," Selangor police CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat said today.
"Jamal and the policemen are being investigated under Section 223 and 224 of the Penal Code for intentional omission to apprehend on the part of a public servant and escape from confinement negligently suffered by public servant," he added.
Fadzil also refuted Jamal's claim there are "invisible hands" at work to ensure he faces harsh legal action, adding police had never received any sort of "pressure" and were not "hasty" in probing the cases related to Jamal.
"We are investigating Jamal for every single case he was involved with. No parties in power made any attempt to contact or pressure us in investigating him. Everything, including paperwork related to his investigation are being done in accordance with existing laws," he told reporters after a gambling machines disposal ceremony at the Bandar Baru Bangi police station, near here today.
Fadzil added that police will apply for a warrant of arrest for Jamal, after he repeatedly made empty promises to meet police to validate his court bail documents.
As of press time, it has yet to be ascertained whether the application had been made.
Jamal is being probed for escaping police custody under Section 224 of the Penal Code.
"We will intensify our effort in locating Jamal who has failed to show up so far. He should be facilitating the probe and this message was also conveyed to his lawyer," he said.
Fadzil clarified that Jamal was automatically blacklisted by the Immigration Department following investigations against him for his involvement in three other cases.
Jamal failed to show up at the Ampang district police headquarters on Wednesday to sign his court bail papers.
The fugitive had released an audio message on Tuesday to the media claiming that he would meet Ampang police at 2.30pm the next day.
His team of lawyers turned up on time at the station, but more than an hour later Jamal was nowhere to be seen.
