Two friends jailed for robbery, impersonating Immigration officers

KUALA LUMPUR: Two friends were sentenced to eight and seven years' jail by the Sessions Court today after being found guilty of two charges of committing gang robbery and impersonating Immigration officers, last year.
Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah sentenced Zulfikri Sawaluddin, 32, to eight years' jail and three strokes of the cane while Zulfakar Omardin, 36, was sentenced to seven years' jail with two strokes for the robbery charge.
For the second charge, Zulfikri and Zulfakar were sentenced to 16 months' jail each for impersonating Immigration officers and the court ordered both the accused to serve their sentences concurrently from today.
In her judgment, judge Rohatul Akmar said the defence failed to rebut the prosecution's evidence that Zulfikri and Zulfakar had disguised as Immigration officers on the day of the incident.
According to the first charge, they jointly robbed five mobile phones of different brands from seven female beauty salon workers at De Touch Wellness Beauty Centre in Taman Segar. Cheras at 6.30pm on Sept 23, last year.
Deputy public prosecutor Norazlin Mohd Yusoff prosecuted while lawyer Zulkifli Awang represented the two accused. — Bernama
