ALOR STAR: Two men were killed while two others were injured in an accident involving three motorcycles at KM71 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) near here last night.
Pendang District Police chief DSP Arriz Sham Hamezah said the two victims in their 20s were killed on the spot due to severe head and body injuries in the 9.18pm incident.
He said the investigation found that the two men, who were on a speeding motorcycle, failed to avoid another motorcycle which had broken down and was parked on the side of the highway.
"Shortly afterward, another motorcycle with two people in their 20s heading for Alor Star from Gurun also could not avoid the motorcycle, and skidded onto the shoulder of the road, with the victims suffering shoulder and leg injuries," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
The dead victims were taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for a post-mortem, while the two who were injured were also sent to the same hospital.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. — Bernama
