ALOR STAR: An Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), which provides a wide range of facilities and service under one roof involving federal and state agencies as well as the private sector, has been set up here to help facilitate the daily business of Kedah residents.
The Kedah UTC building, built at a cost of over RM50 million on a 23,226-sq metre site at Jalan Kolam Air here, began operations on July 23, 2013 before it was officially opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Addul Razak on Aug 16, 2013.
The UTC building itself is a transformation implemented by the federal government through the Ministry of Finance as previously it was an uninhabited space since 2009.
Kedah UTC manager Zamzama Mohd said the number of visitors taking advantage of the facilities at the UTC had been increasing every year with a total of 5,312,628 visitors recorded since it started operations.
"In 2014, a total of 1,793,666 people visited the UTC, 1,398,847 people (2015), 1,132,885 people (2016) and 474,449 people from January until June 2017," he said today.
Zamzama said the total number comprises an average of 113,035 visitors per month to the 41 agencies, including the Road Transport Department, National Registration Department, Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada), Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) which recorded the highest number of visitors.
Kedah UTC, the symbol of modern development of Alor Star, also provided services under 10 clusters such as security, health, services, training and employment, finance, youth development, utilities and education. — Bernama
