Water vending machine salesman charged with misappropriating RM58,000

PETALING JAYA: A water vending machine salesman claimed trial in two Magistrate's Court here today to two counts of misappropriation involving RM58,000.
On the first charge, Muhammad Ashraf Johari, 29, allegedly withdrew for personal use, RM38,000 deposited by Jafri Othman, 48, into the account of Pro Vending One (M) Sdn Bhd.
On the second charge, he allegedly withdrew for personal use, RM20,000 deposited by Ahmad Johari, 56, into the same account.
He is accused of committing the offence at Summit Hotel and Geno Hotel here, between December 2016 and January 2017.
The charges are framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum five years imprisonment and whipping and fine on conviction.
The court set RM6,500 as bail with one surety and impounded Muhammad Ashraf's passport pending disposal of the case.
In the first case, magistrate Nur Shahirah Abdul Salim fixed Feb 20 for remention, while in the second case, magistrate Salamiah Salleh fixed Feb 28 for remention.
The accused was represented by counsel Rosmira Embong while the prosecution, by deputy public prosecutor Mary Phoon Keat Mee and Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin. — Bernama
