PETALING JAYA: A Yemen national was fined RM400 by the magistrate's court for wearing a "suicide bomber" costume to celebrate Halloween last month.
Amjad Jalal Ahmed Al Dahan, 34, is alleged to have caused public nuisance by wearing the costume at Armanee Terrace Condominium in Damansara at about 7.40pm on Oct 28, 2017.
The charge under Section 268 of the Penal Code is punishable under Section 290 of the same act with a fine of up to RM400.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazlina Razali prosecuted, while Puan Sri N.Saraswathy Devi and R. Alagendra represented the accused.
In mitigation, counsel R. Alagendra said Amjad, an information technology professional, was attending a Halloween party where guests had come in costumes.
She urged for a lenient sentence, adding that he was a first time offender.
Norazlina however asked the court to impose a sentence which would serve as a deterrent to others.
Magistrate Nurulhuda Zakariya imposed the fine in default of a four-day jail term.
