KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still investigating the case involving a controversial Muslim preacher, Zamihan Mat Zin, for his alleged criticism of the Sultan of Johor over the Muslim-only launderette in Muar.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the authorities could not disclose the details of the case as it could affect police investigations into the issue.
"Police are still conducting its investigations based on a police report received on Oct 12," Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said in a parliamentary written reply dated Nov 1.
He was responding to a query by Lim Lip Eng (DAP - Segambut) who asked on the status of a police report lodged by him over Zamihan's controversial speech.
Zamihan, who is also the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) officer and Sunni Organisation Malaysia (Aswaja) president, was remanded for two days on Oct 12 after being arrested for sedition over his criticism.
He had, in a religious lecture at the Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Shah Alam, said it was not right for Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to disallow a Muslim-friendly launderette in Johor. The officer also labelled the Chinese as "unhygienic".
Zamihan had said the issue of the Muslim-only launderette only got bigger because Sultan Ibrahim commented on it.
"There was a Sultan who had said Muslim-friendly launderettes are not allowed in his state. It's not right for the Sultan to say such things. These launderettes are meant to show that Muslims uphold cleanliness," he said.
