Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the government’s decision to place Form Six under the Higher Education Ministry marks a significant step in reinforcing the country’s pre-university education framework.
GOMBAK: The Form Six education system continues to be strengthened through expanded institutions, digital learning improvements and student leadership initiatives aimed at enhancing the pre-university experience nationwide.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the government’s decision to place Form Six under the Higher Education Ministry marks a significant step in reinforcing the country’s pre-university education framework.
“In line with efforts to expand access, two new Form Six colleges were established this year — Form Six College Alor Setar and Form Six College Gombak — bringing the total number of Form Six colleges nationwide to 29,” she said at the STPM Top Students, MUET and Malay Language Proficiency Certificate for Foreign Nationals awards ceremony.
She added that the current system comprises 99 Mod 2 schools and 502 Mod 3 schools, widening access to pre-university education across the country.
Fadhlina also said student welfare remains a priority, with 92,291 Form Six students receiving book vouchers worth RM9.23 million as of June 15.
She added that efforts to modernise teaching and learning are ongoing, with 18 of the 29 Form Six colleges now equipped with smart boards to support 21st-century education.
“The initiative is expected to be expanded to all colleges in stages as part of the digital transformation of the education sector,” she said.
To further strengthen student leadership, she highlighted the establishment of a National Form Six Student Representative Council, with elections scheduled for October.
“The council has been allocated RM50,000 to carry out national-level programmes during its tenure,” she said.
She added that a National Form Six Congress will be held in August, bringing together student leaders from across the country to exchange ideas and enhance intellectual development.
Co-curricular activities, including the Form Six Carnival and Royal Oratory Competition, are also scheduled for October 2026.
“These initiatives will continue to strengthen and uplift Form Six education as an important ecosystem within the national education system,” she said.
