BANGKOK: Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has proposed three key pillars to drive ASEAN Plus Three cooperation and strengthen ASEAN’s partnership with its East Asian counterparts.

Government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat said Anutin attended the 28th ASEAN Plus Three Summit in Malaysia alongside leaders from ASEAN member states and dialogue partners China, Japan, and South Korea.

The Prime Minister noted the world has become increasingly complex and fragile, requiring reinforced and modernised cooperation to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

Anutin proposed the concept of the ‘Three Securities Approach’ as a framework for advancing ASEAN Plus Three cooperation in the future.

He also proposed greater utilisation of ASEAN centres located in Thailand to enhance people’s quality of life and promote sustainable development.

These centres can promote green finance and the transition to clean energy according to the Prime Minister’s proposal.

Anutin expressed appreciation to the Plus Three partners for their proactive and constructive roles in supporting ASEAN.

He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to fostering constructive cooperation among the Plus Three countries to genuinely strengthen the East Asian region.

Throughout his engagements, the Prime Minister will represent Thailand as a leader committed to strengthening cooperation both within ASEAN and globally.

He will use this platform to reaffirm Thailand’s role as a partner for regional sustainability while promoting initiatives on digital technology development.

The Prime Minister will also promote clean energy and building a secure and peaceful region for the shared benefit of ASEAN and the international community.

On Monday afternoon, Anutin is scheduled to participate in the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Summit.

He will advocate for maximising the benefits of the free trade agreement to deliver tangible outcomes for businesses and the public.

Anutin is then expected to meet with the Vice President of the World Bank before joining the 20th East Asia Summit.

Thailand will promote peace, stability and a balanced geopolitical architecture in the Asia-Pacific region at the East Asia Summit.

Later, he will hold a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore according to the spokesperson.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will take part in the 15th ASEAN-United Nations Summit to discuss ways to strengthen ASEAN-UN cooperation.

The discussion will focus particularly on cooperation in sustainable development between ASEAN and the United Nations.

Siripong added that Anutin will later hold bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of New Zealand.

He will then attend a dinner reception hosted by the Malaysian Prime Minister and his spouse in honour of the ASEAN leaders attending the summit. – Bernama
