SINGAPORE: Malaysia and Singapore have pledged to strengthen bilateral relations built on trust, mutual respect, and shared benefits.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the agreement following his bilateral meeting with Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong.
The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur.
Both leaders agreed to maintain positive momentum in ongoing discussions constructively.
They emphasised ensuring that all progress translates into tangible benefits for both nations’ peoples.
“I look forward to the continued efforts during the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat this December,” Anwar said.
He expressed hope that friendship and kinship between the neighbours would continue flourishing.
This spirit remains a cornerstone of regional stability and prosperity.
Wong attended the three-day ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
He was accompanied by his wife Loo Tze Lui and Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.
Malaysia and Singapore remain each other’s largest trading partners.
Bilateral trade from January to November 2024 reached USD78.59 billion (RM360.12 billion).
This represents a 6.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. – Bernama
