Students were forced to walk along the roadside instead of using the sidewalk due to the tree branches covering almost the entire pathway.
A local man has gone viral on social media after taking it upon himself to clear overgrown tree branches blocking a public walkway frequently used by students in Kota Bharu.
In a video shared by @hiyaz_official on TikTok, the clip first shows the poor condition of the walkway, with large tree branches covering almost the entire path and leaving little room for pedestrians to pass through safely.
As a result, many students were forced to walk along the roadside instead of using the sidewalk.
Later in the video, the man dressed in proper work gear, is seen carefully trimming the overgrown tree branches to clear the path.

The clip was accompanied by the caption:
“Not my job, but I can’t let students walk on the road.”
By the end of the video, the once-obstructed walkway had been transformed into a clear and usable path, giving pedestrians enough space to walk safely without having to step onto the busy road.
The act quickly captured the attention of Malaysians online, with many praising the volunteer’s empathy and concern for public safety.
Several commenters described the effort as a “small action with a huge impact,” adding that clearing the walkway could potentially help prevent accidents involving students walking home from school.
“Such a simple act, but it could save innocent lives,” one user commented.
Others thanked the volunteer for stepping up despite it not being his responsibility, while many offered prayers and words of appreciation for his kindness.
“Thank you for your service, sir. May you be blessed and may your wallet never run dry,” wrote another grateful netizen.
