“Don’t become Singaporean citizen unless you want to work till dead”

“I think most Malaysians should come to Singapore only for work and focus on getting the money and go back retire.”

A Singaporean has sparked discussion online after advising netizens on Reddit not to become Singaporean citizens, warning that life in the country often means “working till dead”.

In his post, the Singaporean shared that he recently spoke to a former Malaysian who is now residing in Singapore and has since taken up Singaporean citizenship.

“He told me he regretted being a Singaporean citizen as he envision himself working till dead since cost of living in Singapore is high and getting higher soon.”

The Redditor went on to compare living conditions between the two countries, noting that Malaysians generally have access to more space and land compared to most Singaporeans, who typically reside in smaller HDB (public housing) flats.

According to him, Malaysians also enjoy greater lifestyle flexibility, as those who do not wish to live in cities have the option of returning to their kampung to live a quieter and more peaceful life.

“I think most Malaysians should come to Singapore only for work and focus on getting the money and go back retire.

“Singapore is already crowded with six million people half the size of Klang Valley.

“I dont know whats Malaysians fascination about Singapore other than safety and convenience.”
