M’sian teacher charms netizens teaching Year 1 pupils to greet

A teacher’s playful lesson on greetings wins hearts as pupils’ innocence sparks laughter online

CHEERFULLY greeting teachers is one of the fondest memories of school life, and a heartwarming video shared by a government school teacher has recently delighted netizens.

Rajvin Kaur Kang took to Threads to share how she gently encouraged her newly enrolled Year 1 pupils to greet their teachers at the start of a lesson.

According to Rajvin, the children were still adjusting to school routines, even after two weeks into the term.

“Every time I entered the class, no one stood up or greeted me. So I said, ‘Alright, let’s act it out. I’ll step outside first, then when I come back in, you all greet the teacher, okay?’” she explained.

In the video, the pupils can be seen standing up enthusiastically to the chorus of “Banguuun” (“Stand up”), before greeting her in a sing-song voice with “Assalamualaikum, Cikgu Rajvin”, despite her being a non-Muslim.

Rajvin mentioned that she had previously taught them to say “Good morning” instead.

When she asked why they chose to say “Assalamualaikum”, one pupil innocently replied that pretty teachers should be greeted that way, while others should receive a “Good morning”, prompting laughter from viewers.

Netizens were charmed by the children’s innocence and humour, with many also praising Rajvin for blurring the pupils’ faces in the viral post.

“Thank you for censoring their faces, teacher. I hope more teachers are aware of protecting children,” commented @nblharfn.

Echoing similar sentiments, Puteri Suhaila noted that not all parents are comfortable with their children’s faces being shared online, as it may pose safety risks.

Another netizen, Hilda Ayu, added that learning does not only take place at home, but is also shaped by the environment around children.

“They need this learning process beyond what they get at home,” she wrote.
