A viral complaint backfires after the ‘blocked charger car’ is revealed as one of Malaysia’s earliest EVs.
WHAT began as a furious complaint about a “selfish” driver blocking an EV charging bay at a mall in Kulim has now taken an unexpected turn after netizens revealed the car in question was actually one of Malaysia’s earliest electric vehicles.
In a Threads post that quickly gained traction, an EV driver vented frustration after finding a charging spot occupied by what they believed was a non-EV vehicle, claiming it had allegedly been parked there since the previous day.
“Selfish! It’s not even an EV, yet you parked next to the charger and blocked everyone from charging. I was already in a rush, and my battery was almost empty.
“Luckily, the staff was great — they even arranged another space for me to charge.
“I heard this car has been parked there since yesterday,” the post read.
However, the situation quickly flipped in the comments section, with several netizens pointing out that the parked car was actually among the oldest and first EV models to arrive in Malaysia — sparking a wave of roasting aimed at the original poster for making assumptions.
Some joked that the complainant had just “exposed” their lack of EV knowledge.
“Hey, that is an EV, bro. The Nissan Leaf is one of the earliest EV models,” one user called aliff.naim pointed out.
“Isn’t this Nissan Leaf an EV too? Way more EV than yours,” allangunben echoed.
Still, not everyone was on the EV owner’s side.
Many netizens argued that regardless of whether the car was electric or not, parking at a charging bay for days was inconsiderate and defeated the purpose of having shared charging facilities.
“If you’re not charging, then you’re hogging the spot. It’s still wrong — a charging bay is meant for charging, not parking,” arthurkee1980 commented.
“That’s not an EV parking spot — it’s for EVs to charge. Once you’re done charging, move your car,” afiq_zamani wrote.
