A New Zealand tourist’s TikTok video highlights KLIA’s innovative, air-conditioned waiting area for e-hailing pickups, calling it a “human-centred” travel upgrade.
A New Zealand traveller has drawn attention to Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s thoughtful approach to passenger comfort after praising its upgraded e-hailing pickup system on TikTok.
While KLIA is widely admired for its striking design and diverse food choices, this time the buzz was about a practical feature that many travellers didn’t know they needed — an indoor, air-conditioned waiting area for Grab and other e-hailing services that feels truly “human-centred”.
“Kuala Lumpur Airport leading by example.
“Besides having some of the best airport food we have ever experienced, they had to come out with this too!
“When booking a Grab/Uber you need to go downstairs to their specific car park for pick ups.
“However, instead of waiting outside in the humid heat looking out for your car amongst hundreds of others, you can just wait inside whilst the cameras do the job for you.
“Scanning every number plate that enters and displaying it on the screen whilst also telling you what bay they are in means we could eat our corn in a cup and wait comfortably.
“Every airport needs this!” the post read.
For many online, it was yet another example of how small, thoughtful innovations can make travel significantly better.
Malaysian netizens were quick to chime in, proud that KLIA’s smart system was impressing foreigners.
“They installed it last year. Very convenient for everyone. Same goes with certain malls, they are using the same system. Monitors set in the waiting lounge and we can sit comfortably while waiting for Grab,” one user called Emi shared.
“I am Malaysian, but because your post, i know about this hahha thanks!” Nadiah Ahmad joked.
“I thought all airports had facilities like this…it seems Malaysia was among the first to practice this,” NescafeObenG chimed.
