Viral video captures tiger swimming across Royal Belum lake. Rangers amazed by rare wildlife sighting.
A remarkable sighting of a tiger making its way across a lake in Perak’s Royal Belum State Park has captured widespread attention online after footage was posted on social media.
The Perak State Park Corporation shared the half-minute video clip on November 1, which shows the big cat moving elegantly through the water while park rangers watch from their patrol boat.
According to the corporation’s statement, their patrol team was thrilled to witness the magnificent creature during their routine monitoring activities.
“Our patrollers could not contain their excitement upon witnessing a majestic tiger swimming gracefully across the lake,” the organisation stated.
The corporation highlighted that more than 120 full-time rangers and patrol officers are deployed across Royal Belum State Park, working around the clock to safeguard the area’s diverse wildlife.
These conservation initiatives are carried out through partnerships with multiple organisations, including the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), WWF-Malaysia, Rimau, and Yayasan Sime Darby, along with support from local communities.
The viral footage sparked amusing reactions from social media users, with many commenting on the unusual encounter.
One Facebook user, Shafiq Shawal, jokingly suggested the rangers should have offered the swimming tiger a ride on their boat, noting the animal might be exhausted.
The Perak State Parks Corporation responded with humour, explaining that if they allowed the tiger aboard, the rangers would find themselves in the water instead.
Royal Belum State Park is one of Malaysia’s most important conservation areas and serves as a vital habitat for endangered species, including the Malayan tiger.
