SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Health Department has ordered seven restaurants in the Gombak district to be closed for operating in a filthy environment, as well as being infested with rats and cockroaches.

Its director, Datuk Dr Khalid Ibrahim said the closure order for two weeks was made under the Food Act 1983 and was issued during a Clean Premises Operation conducted in Selayang and Kepong on Aug 22.

“During the operation, 127 restaurants and food shops were inspected and from the total, five premises were shut down over the rat and cockroach issue.”

“Another two premises were closed for receiving less than 65% cleanliness marks. All premises were ordered to close for two weeks to carry out cleanliness works according to Section 10 and 11 of the Food Act 1983,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said in the same operation, 159 notices were issued for various offences under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 to 120 premises owners and workers.

Apart from that, he said the department also identified 108 food handlers working at the restaurants inspected for not having food handling training certificate while another 129 workers have yet to be vaccinated for typhoid. — Bernama
