PUTRAJAYA: PKR deputy president, Rafizi Ramli has urged PKR’s Youth wing (Angkatan Muda Keadilan or AMK) and Wanita PKR (Women’s wing) to revisit the party’s idealism and hone leadership talents to fortify the party amidst the current political upheavals.
He emphasised that only idealism could strengthen the determination of the 25-year-old party to move forward, build strength, and serve the people, ensuring that both wings become pillars of strength for PKR.
“I throw this challenge to leaders, delegates of Wanita and AMK: What idealism led you to join the party? This question is fundamental.
“If the idealism is genuine, let’s face challenges, no matter how tough they are. Insya-Allah, through that idealism, you will find the courage, resilience, and fearlessness to overcome any challenge.That’s how this party was built from the beginning,“ he said during the simultaneous opening of the AMK and Wanita Congress 2023 at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.
However, Rafizi, who is also the Minister of Economy, stated that a political party cannot progress solely based on idealism but required organisational strength and the strategic alignment of the talents of capable leaders.
He said that PKR is now in government amid socio-cultural changes that differ from the 90s, where the ‘political awakening’ was born out of dissatisfaction with the situation surrounding PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, at that time.
He noted that both wings of the party now face significant challenges in gaining the support of the youth in the country because today’s young people have high expectations of the government and limited patience.
“That’s your challenge. If you are not prepared with competence, clear ideas, and the maturity to handle the organisation, not only will you jeopardise the party you lead, but you might prematurely derail your political careers,“ he added.
He also reiterated that the party would remove leaders holding government positions if they commit any wrongdoing, in addition to being investigated by authorities regarding any issue.
Earlier, delegates of both wings, led by AMK chief Adam Adli Abd Halim and Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek were presented a montage commemorating 25 years of Reformasi Keadilan and the one-year anniversary of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim taking the oath as the 10th Prime Minister.
