KUALA LUMPUR: There were 71 new cases of Covid-19 today, a sharp drop from the previous day where 147 cases were reported. The cases bring the national tally to 10,596. As of noon today, there were 777 active cases in the country.
On the bright side, another 64 patients have recovered and are discharged.
Health director-general Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) said of the 71 new cases, two were imported ones. One of them is a Malaysian who had returned from Singapore and the other an undocumented migrant who came in from Indonesia.
Sabah continues to account for the lion’s share of locally transmitted cases, accounting for 63 new cases. Of the remaining six cases, four were reported in Kedah and two in Selangor.
Of the new locally transmitted cases, 43 are Malaysians and 26 are foreigners.
The Bangau-Bangau cluster in Sabah saw the largest increase with 47 new cases, comprising 32 Malaysians and 15 foreigners.
All 10 new cases in the Laut cluster are foreigners and in the Benteng LD cluster, the sole case is a Malaysian.
Six patients are still in intensive care, with two requiring ventilator support. There were no new fatalities yesterday, keeping the death toll at 133.
