Adequate food supply for flood-hit Orang Asli community in Mersing

MERSING: The supply of food for 239 heads of households (KIR) in three Orang Asli villages in this district, which were cut off due to flooding, is adequate, said Johor Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA) director Faisal Long.

He said that the villagers involved were from Kampung Orang Asli Peta, Kampung Orang Asli Punan and Kampung Orang Asli Tewowoh.

“Thus far we have adequate supply, and the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) is also closely monitored by the Mersing District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD).

“However, we will look at the flood situation and (the needs) from time to time, and if it reaches one week, the Mersing JPBD will take appropriate action to send food supplies to the affected families,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Meanwhile, Mersing JPBD chairman, Mohammed Shakib Ali, said that, as of 8 am today, a total of 91 people, from 32 families, from Kampung Orang Asli Peta, were accommodated at the Endau Rompin National Park Complex, which has been open since Tuesday. – Bernama
