SIBU: The federal government will allocate RM40.6 million for the construction of new houses for members of the Army’s 9th Infantry Brigade at the Rascom Camp here, next year.

Ministry of Defence (Mindef) secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali said most of the houses at the camp were old and needed repair or reconstruction for the comfort of the members and their families.

“Mindef is always concerned about the wellbeing of its members, not only here, but also at all camps nationwide,” he told reporters after visiting the camp here today.

Apart from the Rascom Camp, Mohd Zuki, accompanied by 1st Infantry Division commander, Maj Gen Datuk Md Din Abu, Army Eastern Field commander Lt Gen Datuk Wira Zamrose Mohd Zin, 9th Infantry Brigade commander Brig Gen Abdul Rahman Wahab and 31st Brigade commander Brig Gen Datuk Johnny Lim, also visited the Junaco and Bumimas camps.

Meanwhile, Mohd Zuki said repair work on a block of 45 G-class houses of army personnel with the rank of corporal and below, are currently taking place at the Rascom Camp at a cost of RM1.4 million.

He said the work is now 85% completed and is expected to be fully completed by September next year. — Bernama
