KUALA LUMPUR: A seminar on Parliamentary reforms will be held on Saturday to encourage the proliferation of ideas for the improvement of the country’s legislative institution.
A statement issued by Parliament today, said the seminar to be held from 9am to 5.30pm, would be officiated by Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.
Four working papers on Parliamentary reforms will be presented at the seminar by experienced local and foreign speakers.
“The seminar will be held at the Conference Hall, Parliament Temporary Block. It is the first collaboration between Parliament and Darul Ehsan Institute,” the statement said.
Among the speakers and moderators expected to attend are Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, Kedah State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Ahmad Kassim, Perak state executive councillor Dr Abdul Aziz Bari, Australian MP Kevin Andrew and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) resident coordinator for Malaysia, Stefan Priesner.
The main objectives of the seminar are to promote the proliferation of ideas on the best practice of parliamentary democracy, as well as to realise the manifestation of improving the New Malaysia Parliamentary Reformation as an independent and transparent institution. — Bernama
