Police to probe JMM president over fiery speech

PETALING JAYA: Police will investigate the inflammatory remark made by Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah (pix) during the rally in Klang to demand justice for firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and the sacking of Minister in Prime Ministers Department P. Waytha Moorthy.

Selangor deputy police chief DCP Datuk Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said Azwanddin would be investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“JMM president will be probed under Section 506 of the Penal Code,“ he said today.

During the rally yesterday, Azwanddin had urged authorities to detain those responsible for Muhammad Adib’s death, failing which he threatened to storm the Klang police station.

A pro-Malay group called Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Geras) has dropped Azwanddin from its endorsed list of speakers, following the latter’s inflammatory remark against the police.

Geras president Abu Bakar Mohamed said its rally yesterday was only to demand justice for the late firefighter and he was caught by surprise by the remark made by Azwanddin.

In a similar rally in Perak on Saturday, Azwanddin had said the prime minister should resign if he could not fulfil the request of some Malays demanding to sack the minister in charge of national unity and social wellbeing.

Last month, Azwanddin and Gagasan 3’s chairman Ragvinder Singh Jess and deputy chairman Amran Ahmad Nor were among those investigated by the police following reports of allegedly incendiary speeches made by them.
