Rebel group wants to meet Anwar

AMPANG: Several PKR leaders, believed to be aligned to party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali, are demanding a reconciliation meeting with president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Its vice-president, Zuraida Kamaruddin (pix), said the issues to be discussed with Anwar were “sensitive” and therefore not suitable for discussions “in a big crowd” at regular meetings.

“We want to meet Anwar before we resume attending regular party meetings,” she told reporters after attending a “plogging” (picking up rubbish while jogging) event in Pandan Indah here today.

Zuraida said these leaders wanted to give their views to set the course for the party to go forward. “We will attend the regular meetings again when the direction for the party is clear,” she said.

Azmin is among those who have skipped regular party meetings.

Anwar had previously stated that all elected and appointed leaders could attend the political bureau meeting every Wednesday and the monthly meeting of the central leadership council.

In response to Anwar’s statement, during an interview with Bloomberg, that he could become the nation’s eighth prime minister by May next year, Zuraida said “we leave it to God to decide”.

On another matter Zuraidi, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, said the government was finalising a package to help those who could not afford housing loans to purchase PPR (people’s public housing) flats.

The package includes financing schemes that allow the residents to rent the flat first.
