Thaipusam chariot procession to start from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple on Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR: The silver chariot procession carrying the statue of the Hindu deity Lord Murugan in conjunction with the Thaipusam festival will start from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Jalan Tun HS Lee, here at 10pm this Thursday and is expected to reach Batu Caves at 3pm on Friday.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Zulkefly Yahya said road closures along the procession route would be carried out in stages and reopened after the chariot passes through.

“The procession will pass through Jalan Tun HS Lee; Jalan Sultan; Jalan Pudu; Jalan Tun Perak; Jalan Leboh Ampang; Jalan Ampang; Jalan Munshi Abdullah; Jalan Dang Wangi; Raja Laut Road; Jalan Ipoh; Jalan Perhentian; Jalan Ipoh; Jalan Ipoh Batu 5 and reach the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves.

The chariot would make its return journey beginning 4pm on Sunday from Batu Caves and is expected to arrive at Sri Maha Mariamman temple at Jalan Tun HS Lee at 5am the following morning,” he said in a statement yesterday.

According to him, the return journey would begin from the Batu Caves Sri Subramaniar Temple and make its way via Jalan Ipoh Batu 5; Jalan Ipoh; Jalan Perhentian; Jalan Tun Razak; Jalan Ipoh; Jalan Raja Laut; Jalan Dang Wangi; Jalan Munshi Abdullah; Jalan Ampang; Jalan Leboh Ampang; Jalan Tun Perak; Jalan Sultan; Jalan Hang Kasturi; Jalan Hang Lekir and reach Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Tun H.S. Lee.

Motorists are advised not to use the roads mentioned to avoid getting stuck in traffic congestion.
