PETALING JAYA: The verdict on the inquest into the death of fire-fighter Muhammad Adib Mohamad Kassim (pix) will be known on Sept 27.
Coroner Rofiah Mohammad, who presided over the five-month proceedings, announced at the high court here yesterday that the inquest was official closed after she received submissions from all parties.
“The verdict will be delivered at 10am,” she said.
The inquest into the fireman’s death began on Feb 11 and ended on July 24.
A total of 30 witnesses took the stand Hospital Canselor Tuanku Mukhriz pathology expert Prof Dr Shahrom Abd Wahid and Hospital Kuala Lumpur forensic expert Dr Ahmad Hafizam Hasmi.
Adib was part of a nine-man fire-fighting team that responded to a distress call from a temple where rioters were protesting its relocation on Nov 27, last year.
During the riot, Adib sustained severe injuries and was hospitalised for three weeks, before succumbing to his injuries on Dec 17.
During the inquest, it was revealed that Adib’s death was due to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multiple organ failure.
An inquest was commissioned as there were no conclusive findings on how Adib was wounded during the riots.
Police investigations revealed there were two probabilities that could have led to Adib’s death — that he was beaten by the rioters or that he was run over by a fire truck.
