TO address the need to equip working professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge in the education sector, Wawasan Open University (WOU) is offering the Master of Education (MEd) programme to boost their academic careers.

WOU through its School of Education, Languages and Communications (SELC) introduced the MEd programme in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) in July 2012 and followed by MEd in Education Management in July 2014.

The programme is designed to cater to the demand for professional qualifications in the education sector and improve the standard of services in educational institutions. In line with this, WOU is expanding its MEd programme to include the specialised field of E-Learning, commencing from its January 2019 intake.

The E-Learning specialisation focuses on translating text-based curriculum into online and interactive learning materials. Learners will learn to design and develop high quality online courses and e-portfolios which host their lesson plan and showcase their professional development experiences.

“This specialisation also introduces new approaches and technologies for incorporating media into E-Learning instruction, to ensure a high level of engagement and a new level of interactivity in classroom environments, the examination and application of interactive assessment modes which ensure immediate feedback,” said Prof Dr Santhiram Raman, Dean of SELC.

By providing the latest knowledge in information technology tools, research in education, leadership skills and education theories, this programme provides real-life techniques that can be applied immediately to classroom situations, education management and administrative challenges.

“The MEd programme has helped me in enhancing my professional development by providing me direction towards achieving my objectives as a programme lead. The MEd syllabus of WOU helped provide me a solid foundation in understanding not only the Malaysian Tertiary education landscape but also new and innovative techniques in areas like Curriculum Development and Ethics in Education,” said Don Jerome Pryantha Jayamana, a lecturer from Johor Bahru who received his MEd degree at the recent WOU’s convocation ceremony.

Vimala Thevi Silvarajah, an international school teacher from Kuala Lumpur who also received her scroll said the programme has helped her improve her literacy skills as

a second language English speaker.

Apart from the MEd programme, the University is also offering industry-relevant Masters’ programmes such as Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration (CeMBA), MBA in Construction Management (MBA-CM), MBA in Manufacturing and Production Management (MBA-MPM), Master of Psychology (MAPS) and research-based Master’s and PhD in the fields of Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, and Computing & Technology.

Over 23,000 working professionals have to date seized the learning opportunities offered by WOU, out of which more than 3,600 have graduated from WOU since 2010.

Enrolment for Part-Time Study January 2019 intake is now in progress. New students will receive a study grant of about RM5,500 and only pay about RM17,000 for the MEd programme at WOU! !
