Malaysia’s successful hosting of ASEAN Summit 2025 demonstrates world-class capability and boosts international confidence, says Transport Minister.
SEGAMAT: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has described Malaysia’s successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit 2025 as an outstanding achievement demonstrating the country’s capability to organise world-class international events.
He said the summit drew global attention from international leaders, reflecting high levels of respect and confidence in Malaysia’s hosting abilities.
“This represents a major success that showcases Malaysia’s competence in hosting the ASEAN Summit while highlighting the trust and priority given by foreign nations,” he told a media conference after officiating the Johor DAP State Annual Convention 2025.
Loke noted this year’s edition was unprecedented as it extended beyond usual ASEAN member states and their three traditional partners China, Japan, and South Korea.
“This time we received attention from the United States, South American nations like Brazil, North American countries such as Canada, plus Australia, New Zealand and the European Union,” he said.
The DAP secretary-general added this recognition reflected growing confidence in Malaysia’s foreign policy and its active peace facilitation efforts in Cambodia and Thailand during its chairmanship.
“This success elevates Malaysia’s standing on the global stage, and when our country’s name is held in high regard internationally, the benefits will be long-term for the people,” he said.
Loke said strong ties with major powers would open new trade doors including emerging markets such as Brazil and South Africa.
“Expanding exports globally will certainly attract more investments and create more job opportunities, especially in Johor which is now drawing international attention,” he said.
He said the successful hosting also strengthened public service confidence in the Unity Government’s stability following political uncertainty between 2020 and 2022.
“We have proven that over the past three years this government has not only survived but has successfully led and stabilised the country,” he said. – Bernama
