Malaysia must act faster to boost tech and cybersecurity

Malaysia urged to accelerate local tech capabilities and digital security amid rising threats, says deputy prime minister.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia needs to move faster in strengthening local technological capabilities to ensure its digital infrastructure remains secure and resilient, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In a Facebook post, he said the step was crucial amid the rapid pace of technological development, which demands readiness to face an increasingly complex and challenging cyber threat landscape.

“The rapid advancement of technology, including next-generation artificial intelligence, requires Malaysia to move faster in strengthening local technological capabilities, safeguarding data and ensuring its digital infrastructure remains secure and resilient,” he said.

He said this after attending the National Cyber Security Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today to discuss strategies to address the challenge.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said the government will continue to strengthen the country’s cyber security ecosystem to ensure Malaysia remains competitive and reliable in the digital era.

“I believe that cyber security today is no longer just a technology issue, but also involves national security, public confidence and the future of Malaysia’s digital economy.

“Therefore, we must always be ready to face every challenge that arise,” he said.
