Ambulance driver killed, three injured in PLUS highway crash near Kluang
KLUANG: An ambulance driver was killed and three others were injured when the vehicle skidded on the North-South Expressway today.
The accident occurred at KM59.8 of the PLUS highway southbound near here this afternoon.
Renggam Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander Senior Fire Officer II M Nasir A Shah said six personnel were dispatched after a call was received at 1:30 pm.
He confirmed the Segamat Hospital ambulance had skidded, involving the driver, two nurses and a patient.
“Monitoring showed that the driver and the front passenger were thrown out of the ambulance,” he said in a statement.
The other two victims in the back of the vehicle were not trapped, he added.
Firefighters rescued the victims and moved them to a safe area before handing them to another ambulance.
The 43-year-old driver was pronounced dead and his body was handed to police.
The operation concluded at 2:24 pm.
Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon confirmed all victims were sent to Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang.
“Further investigations and information related to the incident will be announced by us,” he said.
