Cops investigating after child slapped by classmate, nose bleeds for walking slowly

A seven-year-old boy was left traumatised after being slapped by a classmate at a school in Ampang Jaya, causing his nose to bleed. Police are investigating.

PETALING JAYA: A seven-year-old boy was left traumatised after his nose bled when a female pupil slapped him while he was on his way to the toilet at a school in Ampang Jaya last Monday (Jan 19).

“My child is still traumatised and refuses to go to school,” said his father, Syed Rosli Syed Harman, 50.

The incident was brought to his and his wife’s attention after the school called at 3 p.m. last Monday to inform them that their seven-year-old son had suffered a nose injury.

Syed Rosli said that upon learning about the incident, he and his wife rushed to the school in Ampang Jaya to find out what had happened.

“Upon arrival, the headteacher, class teacher, and other teachers explained that the incident occurred while my son was going to the toilet.

“My son was reportedly walking in front while the female pupil was behind him. It was understood that my son was walking slowly, which apparently upset the other pupil, and she then slapped his face,” he told Harian Metro.

He added that he immediately filed a police report and took his son to Ampang Hospital for treatment, where the doctor granted him a two-day sick leave.

“The headteacher also informed us that an internal investigation will be conducted, and the pupil involved will be transferred to another class to maintain harmony.

“They also wanted to meet with the parents involved, but for now, I do not wish to meet them and will leave the matter to the police to investigate.

“My son is still traumatised and does not want to go to school, but I will try to persuade him to return after his sick leave ends today,” he said.

He also expressed hope that CCTV cameras could be installed in all schools to help with cases and ensure justice for all parties.

“CCTV is very important because it can serve as a reference, and I hope the Ministry of Education (MOE) will install it in all schools as it can assist schools in monitoring,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ampang Jaya district police chief, assistant commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid, confirmed that the police have received a report regarding the incident.

He said the viral video showed a pupil being hit at school.

“The police report was made last Monday by the child’s father. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, and no arrests have been made so far,” he said in a statement.
