AGC orders police to speed up probe into lorry driver’s death in custody

The Attorney-General’s Chambers has directed police to expedite the investigation into a lorry driver’s death in custody for a coroner’s inquest.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has instructed the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody (USJKT) to expedite the investigation into the death of lorry driver M. Manisegaran.

The AGC, in the statement, said that the directive was issued to ensure the case can be promptly brought before the Coroner’s Court to determine the cause and manner of Manisegaran’s death.

It added that the full investigation report is expected to be submitted to the AGC in the near future.

“The AGC remains committed to ensuring that every case of death in custody is handled transparently, comprehensively and in accordance with the law,” it said.

The media previously reported that Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo had urged the AGC to address allegations concerning a lorry driver who died in police custody but whose case had not been investigated for more than nine months.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to carry out a transparent, open and thorough investigation into all deaths in custody, stressing that no party should be protected in the process. – Bernama
