Malaysia’s Court of Appeal will deliver its verdict on January 20, 2026, regarding appeals in the Altantuya Shaariibuu family civil lawsuit.

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has scheduled January 20, 2026, for its decision on appeals filed by the government and political analyst Abdul Razak Baginda.

They are challenging the High Court ruling that favored the family of murdered Mongolian model Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Attorney Abraham Au, representing Abdul Razak, confirmed the date was set during case management before deputy registrar Mariam Hasanah Othman.

A three-judge panel deferred their verdict on October 9 after hearing submissions from all parties involved.

Altantuya’s parents and grandson originally filed a RM100 million lawsuit on June 4, 2007, claiming severe psychological trauma from her death.

The Shah Alam High Court ruled in the family’s favor on December 16, 2022, ordering RM5 million in damages jointly from Azilah Hadri, Sirul Azhar Umar, Abdul Razak, and the government.

Both the government and Abdul Razak subsequently appealed this decision.

Azilah and Sirul were convicted in 2009 for murdering Altantuya between October 19 and 20, 2006.

The Federal Court upheld their death sentences in 2015 after overturning a prior Court of Appeal acquittal.

In October 2023, the Federal Court commuted Azilah’s death sentence to 40 years imprisonment following a review application. – Bernama
