High Court sets March 26-27 for defence arguments in case of DSP charged with causing death of teenager near a school in Ipoh.
IPOH: The High Court has fixed March 26 and 27 to hear the defence case for senior police officer DSP Mohd Nazri Abdul Razak, who is charged with murder.
Judge Datuk Bhupindar Singh Gucharan Singh Preet set the dates after the prosecution closed its case.
Deputy public prosecutor Afzainizam Abdul Aziz submitted that the prosecution had established four key elements of the charge.

He argued the accused struck the victim at high speed in a school zone without taking evasive action.
“Pursuing and ramming the victim without braking in a school zone showed the accused had acted with the knowledge that his conduct was likely to endanger life,” he said in his oral submission.
Evidence from Perodua indicated the accused’s vehicle was travelling at 90.9 kilometres per hour.
Data showed the vehicle’s brake lights were not activated and its tyres remained straight.
“The prosecution submits it is evident that the accused acted in the knowledge that his actions were so dangerous as to be likely to cause death or grievous bodily harm,” Afzainizam concluded.
He further contended the accused drove out from the school upon hearing a loud exhaust backfiring.
This sequence showed the accused was conscious that the school day was ending, the prosecutor argued.
The defence will present its case on the scheduled dates in March.
The judge will then rule on whether Mohd Nazri is to be acquitted or required to enter his defence.
The 45-year-old is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with causing the death of 17-year-old Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie.
The alleged offence occurred near SMK Jati on Dec 15, 2023, between 11.55 am and 12.32 pm.
The charge carries either the death penalty or imprisonment of 30 to 40 years and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane. – Bernama
