Jahidah Nordin’s ex-husband faces new hurt charges involving another wife

Rosmaini Abdul Raof, ex-husband of Jahidah Nordin, pleads not guilty to two charges of causing grievous hurt to another wife.

SUNGAI PETANI: The former husband of Jahidah Nordin, who was sentenced to 14 years in prison on May 4, was brought back to the Sessions Court here today to face two charges of causing grievous hurt to another of his wives recently.

Rosmaini Abdul Raof, 43, however, pleaded not guilty after the charges were read out before Judge Najwa Che Mat.

According to the first charge, he is accused of causing grievous hurt to Nurfitri Moktar, 39, with a plastic chair and rubber hose at a house on Persiaran Amanjaya 10, Bandar Amanjaya here, at 5.00 pm on March 29.

For the second charge, he is accused of causing grievous hurt to Nurfitri using a clothes hanger and a curtain rod at the same house, at 9.00 am on April 23.

Both charges were framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment of up to 20 years, as well as a fine or caning, upon conviction.

Section 326A of the Penal Code provides that if an offence under Section 326 is committed against a spouse, the offender shall be punished with double the maximum term of imprisonment prescribed under Section 326, notwithstanding any other penalty imposed for that offence.

Kedah state prosecution director, Datuk Khairul Anuar Abdul Halim, appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel Ruzana Abdul Rahim from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK).

The judge then set June 16 for the next case mention. No bail was offered, as the accused is currently serving a sentence at Kajang Prison.

The media previously reported that a civil servant, who was 12 weeks pregnant, sustained multiple injuries believed to have been caused by her husband, resulting in a miscarriage.

The suspect was confirmed to be the same man previously found guilty of causing grievous hurt to Jahidah, 46, who was then 10 weeks pregnant, by repeatedly striking her head, face and hands, as well as kicking her, in Larkin, Johor Bahru, in 2021.
