MACC chief says two more ‘Datuk’ ranked armed forces officers are expected to be charged next week, pending the Attorney-General’s approval.
KOTA BHARU: Two more senior Malaysian Armed Forces officers, both holding the title ‘Datuk’, are expected to be charged in court next week.
Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed the matter, stating the charges are subject to approval from Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.
“If the Attorney-General agrees, we will proceed with charging two more individuals,” he said at a press conference here today.
He said the MACC had proposed charges against the two senior officers, prioritising action at the highest level first.
“We are proceeding from the highest level first, before moving on to others,” Azam said.
He expressed confidence a decision from the Attorney-General would be obtained soon, given the case’s significance and public attention.
“This is a responsibility that I have fulfilled, and the Attorney-General also has a responsibility to discharge,” he added.
Earlier today, former army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with four counts of receiving proceeds from unlawful activities amounting to more than RM2.12 million.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The investigation, codenamed Op Parasit, began on Oct 7, 2025, and involves the procurement of army projects.
A senior officer and his two wives were detained on Jan 7, with the officer remanded for seven days.
On Dec 23, 2025, MACC officers conducted preliminary investigations at the Ministry of Defence into several army-related projects dating back to 2023.
Media reports last Thursday stated 23 individuals, including high-ranking officers, were detained to assist in investigations into alleged corruption and abuse of power linked to procurement.
